Optimisation of Domestic Hot Water production system in a hotel in Kalamata
At the Pharae Palace hotel, with a capacity of 150 beds, a domestic hot water production system was installed consisting of 3 tanks of Tank In Tank technology, a solar field with vacuum collectors and an oil boiler. By monitoring the operation of the solar field and the consumption of oil in the boilers, it was found that the solar thermal system did not have the expected performance. The owners of the hotel decided to take all necessary actions to remedy the problems and optimize the operation of the facility. After conducting relevant market research, our company was selected and commissioned to renovate the facility. The Employer’s requirement was to maintain the existing equipment and at the same time utilize state-of-the-art technology to control the facility. The system and its automations were completely redesigned. New pump stations and new SS-flex stainless piping for the solar circuit were installed. Heat transfer is now done with a Kioto Solar Energy plate heat exchanger. An operation monitoring control system of the company Prozeda was installed, which was configured for the operating conditions of the installation. The studies were prepared in collaboration with the THEROS company and all the work was done under the constant supervision of our company’s engineers in direct collaboration with the Employers. Our forecast for the annual reduction in oil consumption was 35%. After the upgrade, measurements show that the reduction in oil consumption is estimated at 50%. An example of system operation after the upgrade is data from June 12, 2016 where collectors raised the inert vessel to 90°C and the system shut down to protect it from overheating. Basic features
  • Fifteen (15) Greek-made vacuum collectors with a total area of 43 sq.m.
  • Three (3) ACV SL600 tank-in-tank inert containers
  • Kioto Solar Energy WTS20-40 plate heat exchanger
  • Pump stations Kioto Solar Energy SST-X50E with Wilo Para 15/1-11.5 and SSTX25 with Wilo Yonos Para 15/7.0
  • Prozeda controller, Grandis 650 HP
